The New Games Movement That Started in San Francisco in Late 1960s Is Returning in June 2016

A return to New Games including public events and lectures that are in the works for this Summer, specifically on the weekend of June 24-26. So please pencil in that time so you can meet and learn a bit from these awesome folks. Former NG co-Director, trainer, Aikido master and all around New Games guy John O’Connell has started the ‘Earth’ ball rolling and it seems that many of the principals involved back in the heady 70’s will be rolling into town.


Internet Archive Does Windows: Hundreds of Windows 3.1 Programs Join the Collection

We’ve now added over 1,000 programs that run, in your browser, in a Windows 3.1 environment. This includes many games, lots of utilities and business software, and what would best be called “Apps” of the 1990s – programs that did something simple, like provide a calculator or a looping animation, that could be done by an individual or small company to great success.

the idea for the project was inspired by the work of richardson smith design agency (later acquired by fitch) for xerox, in which the designers collaborated with multiple divisions within xerox to create a single high-level ‘design language’ that the company could implement throughout its organization. jerry manock, the designer of the apple II and head of design in apples’s macintosh division, and rob gemmell, head of the apple II division created a plan in which they would invite global designers to apple headquarters and, after interviewing all of them , stage a competition between the two candidates.
